Woodside Primary School where learning is an adventure. From a resoundingly good Ofsted 2008, Artsmark Gold and  ECM Silver 2009 this popular and growing school has gone from strength to strength refurbishing building and grounds as a superb learning environment for children. At Woodside Primary School we are ambitious for our children academically but take equal care  to develop their all round abilities and personal confidence through a rich and exciting curriculum and a wide range of sporting and creative activities.  In fact we believe our children are more successful academically because of all the other activities they do.

New Class Names for Woodside

As Woodside Primary School now has two single year classes in each year we have changed the names of our classes. Instead of just a number, each class at Woodside now has a name made of the year group and the first letter of the teacher’s surname, apart from the nursery who will have “M” for morning or “A” for afternoon. We hope this will be easier to remember and also show that the two classes in each year group are equal and parallel.

Holiday Learning

Children have worked hard last year. We wanted them to have a good holiday but not to forget the skills they had learnt. We gave them three things to do during the summer which would help keep their skills fresh and be enjoyable at the same time.

The big summer read

Go to your local library and join the Space Hop. There will be a prize for the class that has the most children who complete the challenge.

Holiday project

Find out about the topic set by your teacher for next term and present your findings in a book or folder.  We would like to see your own pictures and writing not just printouts from the web. There will be a prize for the best one in each class.

Web based learning

Sharpen up your skills with the fun activities on our learning zone. If you have no computer or internet access at home you can do this at your local library.

Welcome back to Woodside

The field and grounds at Woodside Primary School are green and grassy again after the wet summer and the classrooms are bright and welcoming for the new term. During the holiday we carried out essential maintenance, replaced circuit boards, repaired the roof, refurbished the infant corridor and cloakrooms, installed a disabled toilet and equipped a number of classrooms with new furniture.

Woodside reception children will not need a packed lunch on Monday as we are giving the whole year a free meal so that they can try our healthy menu. Please help us by paying  dinner and other money online if possible or if not then in a clearly labelled envelope straight into the box in the  foyer or via your child. Swimming lessons start on Friday 10th for years 5 and 6. Mrs Edwards’ class (2E) will be presenting our first class assembly on Wednesday 15th.

If you are a year 6 (or maybe a year 5) parent  come along to our meeting at 7.00 p.m. on Thursday 16th September  to find out about SATS and the admission procedure for secondary schools. Year 3 will be starting free string lessons on Thursdays this term and year 4 classes will be enjoying three days away at Wat Tyler Country Park towards the end of the month. Woodside breakfast and after school club have already started and lunchtime sports clubs and music lessons start next week:
